Sunday Funday

On Sunday we had a day full of adventures.
To celebrate Earth Day, we started off with a beach clean-up at Makapuu!

To see a little video showing the day's events, click here.

The event was organized by Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii, who also sponsored a concert and fair at Sea Life Park! Matt and I hadn't been there since we were kids, so it was fun to watch the dolphin show and see all the other sea creatures.

While we were in Waimanalo, we ate at Serg's Mexican Kitchen.
A stop at the skate park made us crave something sweet, so we ended the day with shave ice at Island Snow! Oh yeahhh!

Cheers to an awesome day!

Painting at a Pop-Up Restaurant!

Artists in the house! The Greenhouse that is! On Saturday we had a live painting session as part of a pop-up restaurant in Kakaako. It was a collaboration between Off-Menu Catering, Miso & Ale, Off-Premise, and HUBurban. Gavin from Reckon Shop organized the artists, and we had a nice table to set up on. Matt and I started two paintings on wood, inspired by tree houses and river boats!

Setting up!

Jeff Gress and Kenny worked on painting the windows!

At the end of the night, five guests each won a Vers giftbag that included
the "You're Swell" notecards, a gift certificate, and our "Off Da Grid" print!

This is how far we got on the paintings that night, still some work to do...
we'll post pictures when they're finished!

ARTafterDARK

Iaorana! This Friday we will taking part in ARTafterDARK at the Honolulu Museum of Art!

The first 100 members will be able to screen print with us, and take home their own print! We will have the Peaceful Ocean and Tools of the Trade designs there to choose from. The event is very popular, so be sure to come at the beginning of the night to participate! The beautiful galleries, food, music, and art demonstrations make ARTafterDARK the perfect way to spend a Friday night!

"Draw the Line" Fundraiser

On Friday, Matt and I were part of a group of artists that donated our time to raise money for Kumu Kahua Theatre. It is a local community theater, and their plays always give a unique perspective on both historical and contemporary life in Hawaii. We spent a couple hours drawing on paper, and each piece was hung on the wall for visitors to buy for only $20! Matt and I collaborated on the drawings, alternately painting watercolors or drawing with ink. It was a fun night of drawing, making new friends, and helping an awesome organization!

First Show of the Year!

Join us for the opening reception of Trip Around the Island on February 10th! This show will be on view at The ARTS at Marks Garage in Chinatown from February 7th to March 24th.

See the facebook event page here.

Curated by Sonny Ganaden, this show is based on the diverse areas of Oahu island. It features 30 pieces that were first printed with a lithograph image by Sonny, then passed on to 12 other artists to complete. We were given three prints to work on, representing Haleiwa, Turtle Bay, and Kahuku. We worked alternately in layers- I laid down some watercolor washes, Matt sketched, I filled in shapes with more color, Matt inked the black and added more details, then I finished off by stitching in some colored thread! Whew! It has been a fun process and we look forward to seeing what the other artists have done!

Here are two of the mixed media pieces in progress:

"Turtle Bay"

"Kahuku"
